Map of Drogheda in 1749
The "Council Book of the Corporation of Drogheda Vol 1, From the Year 1649 to 1734", was edited by the Rev. T. Gogarty and printed in Drogheda in 1915. The book records the minutes of meetings held by the Corporation. Rev. Gogarty continued transcribing the minutes and these were published on a weekly basis in "The Drogheda Independent", commencing 11th April 1914. In 1916 the articles appeared only occasionally and finally ceased on 15th April 1916 when Rev. Gogarty became too ill to continue. At this stage, the minutes had been published by the newspaper up to November 1758.
There is no easy way to present an index to these newspaper articles. Rev. Gogarty included the Folio Number of each page of the original Minutes in his transcription and this is what I am using as a reference point in the following index. While the original minutes are not readily accessible, the index is presented, unedited, as a genealogical tool, which may be helpful in tracing ancestry in Drogheda, as dates are also included. The following are the headings: Surname, Name, Title, Folio Number, Year and Comment. As it is unedited there is a lot of repetition of names and dates, but this in itself can be genealogically helpful. This Index should, of course, be searched in tandem with the other Drogheda Council index (1649 - 1734) on this site.
The earliest Church Records for Drogheda are as follows (Source: Ryan's Irish Records)
